This box is turned from a piece of nicely figured silver maple (Acer saccharinum) and features an inset lid made from quarter sawn Black Cherry (Prunus serotina). The lid is thin and delicate, and fitted with a diminutive knob made from ebonized hard maple (Acer saccharum). The subtle, dome shape of the lid compliments the overall shape of the box and almost magnifies the 3-dimensional figure and ray fleck of the cherry. The bottom of the box has been decorated with some texturing to provide a little surprise when the box is handled. This box has been finished with a high gloss finish to maximize the depth and chatoyance of both the figured maple and quarter sawn cherry. The cherry has already started to darken nicely and will only become better with age. This box is the perfect place to keep your most precious earrings, cuff links, or other keepsakes.
