This box is turned from a piece of black cherry (Prunus serotina) and features an inset lid made from hard maple (Acer saccharum). The maple lid is thin and delicate and has been textured with straight groves that radiate from the center and then painted black to contrast with the natural cherry colour. The lid has been fitted with a diminutive two-part knob made curly hard maple has a simple curved profile on the outside and a decorative disk on the inside which features a textured flower that has been highlighted with gold gilding. The subtle, dome shape of the lid compliments the overall shape of the box. The bottom of the box is decorated with additional texturing to provide a little surprise when the box is handled. The cherry body of the box has been finished with a shellac and oil mixture and buffed to a pleasant satin sheen that provides protection while still giving unmistakable feel of wood. The cherry in this box has already started to develop the deep rich patina that cherry so famous for and will only get better with time and features a small patch of lighter sapwood that provides even more character and interest. This delicate box is the perfect place to keep your most precious earrings, cuff links, or other keepsakes.
