This box is turned from a piece of subtly figured white ash (Fraxinus americana,) with some figure and contrasting heartwood. The inset lid is made from thuya burl () and is thin and delicate, and fitted with a diminutive knob made from ebonized hard maple (Acer saccharum). The subtle, dome shape of the lid compliments the overall shape of the box and almost magnifies the 3-dimensional figure of the burl. The bottom of the box and handle have been decorated with some texturing to provide a little surprise when the box is handled or opened. This box has been finished with a thin lacquer finish to protect the wood while maintaining the natural look and feel. In contrast the lid has been finished with several coats of high gloss lacquer to maximize the depth and chatoyance of the figured wood. This box is the perfect place to keep your most precious earrings, cuff links, or other keepsakes.
