This delicate round bottomed box in black walnut (Juglans nigra) features a window inlay of highly figured hard maple. The maple is so highly figures that it appears almost three dimensional when viewed from different angles. The window inlay technique means that the inlay is visible on both the inside and outside of the box. On the outside the inlay is framed by a delicate bead and a ring of texturing while a single bead frames and highlights the inlay on the inside of the lid. A small kerf (groove) decorates the seam between the lid and base, while additional texturing on the inside bottom of the box, and the bottom of the box provide a little extra interest and surprise when the box is handled and opened. One of my favourite boxes.
