This clam shaped box is turned from a piece of plum wood (Prunus domestica) that features some contrasting sapwood, a couple of pin knots, and even a little spalting. Taken together, this wood has all kinds of character and visual interest, and like most fruit woods, will only get better with age. The base and the lid were cut from the same piece of wood, so the grain flows continuously around the form. The lid fits snugly on the base and features a two-part ebonized hard maple knob that has a simple curved profile on the outside and a decorative disk on the inside. Texturing on the bottom of the box provides a little surprise when the box is handled. Finished with a blend of oil and varnish and then buffed to a semi-gloss finish, this box feels as good as it looks. The perfect place to keep your most precious earrings, cuff links, or other keepsakes.
