This unique bowl is actually turned from several laminations cut from a single board that as made from strips of curly maple and black cherry that were then re-assembled into its final shape. Alternate layers of the lamination were rotated 180 degrees to produce the checker-board pattern. Normally, bowls constructed with this technique have straight sides, but I prefer to turn them with a subtle, but distinct parabolic curve from the base to the rim which produces a much more elegant form. The bottom of the bowl has been decorated with several concentric rings and a delicate texture to serve as proof that it was turned with as much care and attention as the rest of the bowl. Fonished with several coats of danish oil and polished to a pleasant silky sheen, this bowl is as nice to hold as it is to look at. An heirloom quality item that will be in your family for generations.
