This box is turned from a piece of black walnut (Juglans nigra) and features an inset lid made from thuya burl (Tetraclinis articulata). The burl lid is thin and delicate, and fitted with a diminutive knob made from ebonized hard maple (Acer saccharum). The subtle, dome shape of the lid compliments the overall shape of the box and almost magnifies the burl figure. The bottom of the box and the bottom of the handle are both decorated with some texturing to provide a little surprise when the box is handled and opened. The walnut body of the box has been finished with Danish oil and buffed to a pleasant satin sheen that provides protection while still giving unmistakable feel of wood. In contrast, the top of the lid has been finished with several coats of lacquer and buffed to a high gloss to emphasize the figure and depth of the cedar burl figure. At just 26 gram, this delicate box is the perfect place to keep your most precious earrings, cuff links, or other keepsakes.
