This classic shaped box is turned from soft maple (Acer saccharinum), and features some darker heart wood and several distinctive stripes caused by ambrosia beetles burrowing into the tree when it was alive, providing the wood with considerable character and visual interest to the finished piece. The form is itself is unadorned but does feature delicate bead where the lid meets the base. Texturing has been applied the bottom of the box and the inside of the lid to provide a little surprise when the box is handled or opened. A lacquer finish has been applied to this box to provide protection and enhance the natural depth of the wood. The finish has been buffed to a high gloss.
