This box is turned from a piece of soft maple (Acer saccharinum) that features beautifully contrasting dark heart wood and creamy white sapwood, all of which has been further enhanced by "Ambrosia" stripes - which are the remnants of Ambrosia beetles boring into the living tree. The form itself is simple but pleasant and features an inset lid made from black walnut that has been textured with linear rows of divot. The lid has been fitted with a diminutive two-part knob made ebonized hard maple (Acer saccharum) that has a simple curved profile on the outside and a decorative disk on the inside which features a textured flower that has been highlighted with gold gilding. The subtle, dome shape of the lid compliments the overall shape of the box. The bottom of the box is decorated with additional texturing to provide a little surprise when the box is handled. The of the box has been finished with a shellac and oil mixture and buffed to a pleasant satin sheen that provides protection while still giving unmistakable feel of wood.
