This spherical box is turned from a nice piece of American Elm (Ulmus americana) and sits on a base made from black walnut (Juglans nigra). The box itself features a friction fit - which means it stay together when handled, but is easily opened when desired. The seam between the two halves is decorated with a slight champher. This spherical box was turned by hand, without the aid of any mechanical jigs and features an average wall thickens of a little over 4 mm providing an exceptionally light feel to the box when handled. Finished with Tung oil and buffed to a pleasant gloss, this box mesmerizing to hold and handle as the wood almost appears to shimmer when viewed from different angles and the subtle features of the grain are revealed by the spherical shape. The base has been turned and textured on both the top surface and its underside, providing a little extra surprise and interest when the box is picked up.
