This Mosque shaped box is turned from a pretty piece of silver maple (Acer saccharinum). The form is itself is inspired by Richard Raffan's Mosque boxes. The piece of wood used in this particular box has considerable curl and spalting that provides all kinds of visual interest and flows almost seamlessly from the base into the top. Texturing has been applied the bottom of the box to provide a little surprise when the box is handled. A tung-oil finish has been applied to this box to provide protection and enhance the natural depth of the wood. The finish has been buffed to a pleasant gloss, but still gives it a natural wood feeling. This box is the perfect place to keep your most precious earrings, cuff links or other keepsakes.
