This is a delicate ring box turned katalox (Swartzia cubensis) which is also known as Mexican ebony. The box features a medallion turned in the lid that has been decorated with radiating lines of texture framed by a delicate bead. Addition texture on the bottom of the base and the inside of the lid serve as a little surprise when the box is opened or handled. The texture on the bottom of the box has been decorated with gold gilding cream to provide a little extra surprise. A small kerf decorates the seam between the lid and base, but doesn't detract from the almost perfect grain alignment. The fit of the lid is a suction fit but is very easy to remove with a second hand. This is a beautiful little box for your most precious jewellery or keepsakes that should be in your family for generations.
