This spherical box is turned from a piece of Granadillo (Platymiscium spp.) and sits on a base made from Peruvian Walnut (Juglans spp.) which is also known as Nogal. The box itself features a friction fit - which means it stay together when handled, but is easily opened when desired. The seam between the two halves is decorated with a subtle groove that does not detract from the almost perfect grain match. This spherical box was turned by hand, without the aid of any mechanical jigs and features an average wall thickens of about 4 mm providing an unexpectedly light feel to the box when handled. Like all wooden balls, this spherical box is almost mesmerizing to hold and handle. The base has been turned and textured on both the top surface and its underside, providing a little extra surprise and interest when the box is picked up. The perfect place to keep you most precious heirlooms, or as a conversation starter in your office.
