This winged bowl was turned from black cherry (Prunus seritonia). The wings of this particular piece form a graceful arch that suspends the bowl above the surface that it sits on. The bowl has been turned both above and below the wings, giving the illusion that the wings and bowl were turned separately and joined together, but they were actually turned at once from the same piece of wood. The top surface of the wings on this piece have been further embellished with concentric rings of oval divots. The textured surface was then painted black and highlighted with dry-brushed gold, silver and bronze paint to provide an aged metallic look that contrasts nicely the natural cherry. Finished with Danish oil and buffed to a pleasant sheen, the bowl feels even better than it looks. Perfect as a decoration on its own, or put to work as a candy dish or key holder at your front door, this bowl will only get better with time.
