This hollow form it turned from a nicely figured piece of black walnut (Juglans nigra) that feature some beautiful curly figure and a substantial patch of lighter sapwood that provides considerable interest and character. The form itself is simple and elegant and features a raised collar at the rim. An ebonized hornbeam (Ostrya virginiana) lid and finial top off the form. The finial is attached to the hollow form using threads cut directly into the wood. A textured pattern was applied to the inside of the lid and highlighted with gold gilding to provide a little surprise when hollow form is opened. Finished with Danish oil and buffed to a semi-gloss finish this urn feels as good as it looks and will only get better with time.
