This small bowl was turned from black cherry (Prunus serotina) and is the perfect size for snacks or breakfast cereal. The bowl was turned to completion while the wood was still wet and then allowed to slowly dry. During the drying process the wood warped and moved, producing a final form that is definitely oval with a subtly undulating rim. The simple, unadorned form really lets the beauty of the wood show through, and because it is made from black cherry it will only get better and prettier over time. Finished with food safe linseed oil and beeswax and then buffed to a pleasant satin sheen, this bowls feels as good as it looks.
