This large bowl was turned from a richly coloured piece of black walnut (Juglans nigra). This particular bowl also features some distinct patches of lighter sapwood on either side that are nearly balanced with one another. The outside profile is a simple curve that really lets the beauty of the wood shine through. The top of the rim is inward sloping and the inside is undercut to provide some visual depth the piece. A ring foot at the base gives the form a little visual lift when it is sitting on a table or counter while texturing and several concentric rings serve as proof that the bottom of the bowl was turned with as much are and attention to detail as the rest of piece. Finished with several coats of food safe linseed oil and beeswax and then buffed to a pleasant sheen, this bowl is ready to go to work in your kitchen or as a center piece on your dining room table.
