This relatively large bowl was turned from a nicely coloured and figured piece of white ash (Fraxinus americana). This particular piece of wood has some nice ripple figure and features considerable heartwood that provides additional visual interest and contrast. The form itself is simple so as not to distract from the beauty of the wood but does feature a raised cove at the rim that creates a distinct shadow line and provides the perfect place for your thumb when you pick the bowl up. A bead separates the cove from the rest of the form. This bowl also has a ring foot that lifts the form off of the surface that it is sitting on, and a textured pattern on the very bottom of the bowl serves to illustrate that the bottom was turned with as much care and attention to detail as the rest of the piece. Finished with several coats of food safe linseed oil and buffed to a pleasant sheen, this bowl is ready to go to work in your kitchen or as a center piece on your dining room table.
