This 13" salad bowl was turned from Black Walnut Juglans nigra). The outside profile is a simple curve that features an inset band of texture about an inch down from the rim. The texture consists of three rings of overlapping divots that provide a tactile element to the bowl. Texture has been ebonized with an iron and vinegar solution which reacts with the wood making it a deep rich black without loosing any of the tactile textures of the walnut. The top of the rim is inward sloping and the inside is slightly undercut to provide another shadow line and visual depth the piece. A ring foot at the base gives the form a little visual lift when it is sitting on a table or counter, while a textured medallion on the very bottom serves as proof that the bottom of the bowl was turned with as much care and attention to detail as the rest of piece. Finished with several coats of linseed oil and then buffed to a pleasing satin sheen, this bowl is ready to go to work in your kitchen or dining room.
