This wide rimmed decorative bowl was turned from yellow birch (Betula alleghaniensis) and finished with texture and acrylic paints. The wide rim was turned with a subtle dome and then hand textured using a rotary carver to create a spiral effect. A delicate bead defines the interior bowl. The rim and bead were then painted with black acrylic, followed by blue and gold interference paint that change colours depending on the angle at which they are viewed. As a result, this piece has remarkable life and appears to subtly change colour as you walk past it. THe underside of the form features an elegant ogee curve, a raised ring foot and a little additional texture to surprize anyone who picks up and handles the bowl. All of the wood surfaces have been finished with a non-toxic shellac finish that enhances the appearance of the wood and provides an pleasant feel. This piece is a real eye catcher and will look great as a centre piece on your dinning room table or on a shelf in your living room.
