This pair of hollow forms were turned from the same piece of spalted hard maple (Acer saccharum) - one turned with the grain, one turned across it. The forms themselves are fairly simple to let the beauty and character of the wood shine through. The spalting is heaviest at the intersection between the darker heartwood and the lighter sapwood and features numerous black lines that form intricate patterns across both forms and isolated cells each filled with a different shade of brown. Finished with a thin coat of satin lacquer, the finish has sealed the surface and provides protections but still provides a distinct feel of wood.
