Large Curly Maple Platter
Description:
This is platter is turned from a spectacularly figured piece of curly silver maple (Acer saccharinum) that a friend and I found at the local city compost site. We scavenged several pieces off of it, but I wish we had got more. It sat for years in my shop, but I finally got the courage to put it on the lathe and make something out of it. I am glad I did. Finished with several coats of polymerized tung oil and then buffed.
