This decorative bowl is turned from a nicely figured piece of Manitoba Maple (Acer negundo) which is also known as Box Elder and features a natural bark edge. The wood itself has all kinds of character and includes some of red stripes that Manitoba Maple is so prized for. This bowl was turned to finish form and thickness and then allowed to dry so it has warped a little which provides additional interest and an unmistakable organic feel. The form itself is simple is sits a simple foot that provides a little visual lift to the piece. A pair of rings inside the foot serve as proof that the bottom was turned with as much attention to detail as the rest of the piece. Finished with Danish oil and then buffed to a pleasant shine, this bowl feels as good as it looks and just begs to be picked up and handled. Don't let the natural edge fool you, this bowl could easily be used as an everyday salad bowl or as purely decorative item.
