This small hollow form is turned from an interesting piece of Bigleaf Maple Burl (Acer macrophyllum). This particular burl had a bark inclusion that has been filled with epoxy tinted with copper pigments that provide a nice contrast with the natural wood and gives the piece additional interest. The form itself is simple really lets the beauty of the wood show. The base is dished out slightly to ensure that the form will sit on a shelf or your desk without wobbling. The walls of the form are thin, but not so thin as to be fragile. Finished with Danish oil and then buffed to a pleasant shine, the finish enhances the wood and the subtle details while still providing that unmistakable feel of wood. This hollow form feels as good as it looks.
