This calabash style bowl is turned from black cherry (Prunus serotina). The form itself is a pleasant, round bowl with an in-turned rim that fits so well in your hand when you pick it up. Three delicate beads decorate the bowl at its widest point and provide some visual and tactile interest. The bottom of bowl has been dished out slightly so it sits on a flat surface without wobbling and three concentric rings that provide a little extra surprise when the bowl is handled and illustrate that the bottom was turned with as much care and attention as the rest of the bowl. The bowl is perfect for serving buns on Sunday dinner or snacks during the big game. Finished with food safe linseed oil and beeswax and then buffed to a pleasant satin sheen, this bowls feels as good as it looks.
