Also known as Zebrawood, Zebrano comes from western Africa, most commonly Gabon and Cameroon. Zebrano is light yellow-brown highlighted in with distinct dark brown/black stripes or veining. These stripes give the wood a distinctive appearance (particularly when quarter-sawn) that gives it its name.
Zebrano tends to be course in texture with interlocking grain, but can be polished to high lustre. It is hard and dense and has a reputation for being hard to work due to its tendency to splinter and tear-out.
Often sliced into veneer for fine furniture or cabinet work, it is also used for decorative items and in marquetry. It is also often used in tunery.
