Paper Birch (Betula papyrifera)

Description

Lighter and softer than it cousin, the yellow birch, the wood of paper birch is still fairly hard and durable. While the wood is tight and fine grained, it often tends to be on the planer side, with less distinct growth ring patterns and figure than many North American hardwoods. That being said, yellow birch is not without is charm and it is eminently suitable for a number of projects and pieces with spectacular figure or colour do occur.
